The 2023 Trail Permits are $20.00 for a 7-day permit or $25.00 for an annual permit. A Motorized Vehicle Use Trail Permit is required for any motor vehicle traveling on motorized use trails in the Black Hills National Forest in South Dakota. Motorized Trail permits may be purchased directly from Black Hills National Forest offices, many local vendors, ordered online: https://www.blackhillsbadlands.com/store/permits-passes (permits mailed), or from the Black Hills and Badlands Tourism Association Visitor Center, located off Exit 61 on I-90.
Forest Service offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Hours at the visitor center are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily year-round. A permit is required on each vehicle on the trail system, and all motorized trail permits are non-refundable and non-transferable. A free map is provided with each permit purchased locally, not mailed with online orders. Users should check with their local Forest Service office if they have further questions about the map and/or permits.
